Course Credit Transfer

Course Credit Transfer
Course Credit Transfer is the recognition of formal learning completed at another Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Under the Standards for RTOs, all qualifications and statements of attainment issued by an RTO must be accepted by other RTOs.
Key Points:

  • Credit transfer allows students to use previously completed units of competency when enrolling in a related course.
  • It is not the same as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process.
  • Students can apply for credit transfer based on previous academic qualifications, skills, or experience as per the Student Handbook.
  • International students should note that course credit may affect course fees and duration. If credit is granted after the issuance of the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), a new CoE will be issued with a reduced duration.
Credit Transfer Guidelines
  • Eligibility:
    • Any student enrolled in a course at WSC can apply for credit transfer.
    • Students cannot apply for units outside of WSC’s scope of registration.
    • Students must be enrolled in at least one active unit beyond those being credited.
    • Cookery & Hospitality programs have clustered units; students should consult admissions before applying.
  • Application Process:
    • No fees are charged for credit transfer, and WSC does not receive funding when credit is granted.
    • Credit transfer is granted only for full units (partial credits are not accepted).
    • Currency of skills is not required if the previous unit is equivalent.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that allows students to have their skills and knowledge recognized toward a qualification.
What is RPL?
  • Assesses informal learning (work experience, skills, training outside formal education).
  • Compares prior knowledge to course competency requirements.
  • Helps students avoid repeating previously acquired skills.
  • Leads to faster completion of a qualification and better career opportunities.
RPL Guidelines
  • Eligibility:
    • Students enrolled in a course at WSC can apply for RPL.
    • Students cannot apply for RPL in units outside WSC’s registration scope.
    • Failed modules are not eligible for RPL unless supported by additional evidence.
    • No extra charges for students applying for RPL in their current program.
  • Assessment Process:
    • Must follow the principles of assessment and rules of evidence.
    • RPL is granted only for full units (no partial recognition).
